Site preparations for construction of the Wallace McCain Learning Commons start today with installation of fencing and preliminary work for excavation at the end of Lord 欧宝体育 Drive. Lord 欧宝体育 Drive will be closed from the intersection of Castine Way for the duration of the project which is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2015.

The Wallace McCain Learning Commons will be an open concept space dedicated to study. This facility is planned to be approximately 13,000 square feet, as a single-story addition to the Life Sciences Centre (LSC), and situated at ground level at the south end of Lord 欧宝体育 Drive. It will be connected to the LSC corridor adjacent to the Chase Building.

Necessary closures include all pedestrian pathways at the site, 2 exits from the LSC (except in the case of an emergency), and the outdoor stairwell from Lord 欧宝体育 Drive leading up to the commons between Henry Hicks Building and the LSC. There will be disruption to vehicle traffic, and the loss of several metered parking spaces along Lord 欧宝体育 Drive, as well as a bike rack.

There will be no access to the small parking lot at the end of Lord 欧宝体育 Drive for the next few days until fencing is fully installed and some trees removed. Access to the parking lot will resume following the completion of this work and is expected to be maintained throughout construction, however, the motorcycle parking spaces will no longer be available.

Excavation work is being delivered by Vector Demolition and will continue for the month of July and into August. Rock breaking is expected to begin within 2 weeks. Further updates about site activity and plans for design and construction of the facility will be provided in the coming weeks.
